Rainy Day In

This post is going to be a bit of diary entry more than anything, if you're interested, stick around!

Today was what I would describe as the perfect rainy day in.

I had work this morning until twelve, then I met Darren and we came back to mine and made lunch, we had spicy couscous (we make this all the time, I might do a post on it one day!)
Then we watched silly TV, like Mr Bean

While drinking hot chocolate! Even though it's not exactly freezing out, hot chocolate is still a must for a rainy day and we have it all the time anyway!

Then we did the most cliched, typical, classic 'rainy day' activity ever. Can you guess what I'm about to say?
We played monopoly!

Board games are so much fun, especially when you can have a laugh with it :) (not that I could even try to take it seriously with Darren, who steals money from the bank, charges me more than he's supposed and takes my houses off my property to put on his!)

But cheating at monopoly aside, it really was such a perfect day, even though it was raining! :)

Simple, Healthy Lunch - Sweet Chilli Stir Fry

I am so annoyed with myself because this is the second time i've made a nice, healthy meal and not taken a photo of it for my blog.

However, I'm going to describe what I did and find internet pictures the best I can, because I think this is a great idea for anyone who is trying to eat healthy or just fancies something a bit different for lunch!

It's actually suuuuper simple to do and only takes around 5 minutes!

I used these 'Oriental Stir Fry' vegetables from tescos (though in all honesty, I not too sure what's all that oriental about it, maybe I'm just uncultured!) Though you could use any vegetables you liked, the ones in the pack I used were baby corn, sugar snap peas, carrots, lemon grass, pak choi, (which is the leaves, you don't fry the leaves!) courgette and broccoli.

I simply put half this pack (minus the leaves) in a wok, that I had already put in a tiny amount of vegetable oil and pre-heated, and stirred them around for about 3 minutes.

I then added a couple of table spoons of sweet chilli sauce straight onto the vegetables and fried them in that to add the chilli flavour to the vegetables

I also heated a tiny bit of the sauce in the microwave for 10 seconds and added that to the cold leaves that I had already in a bowl, I then added the rest of the vegetables to my bowl with the leaves in it and it was done!

This is such a quick and easy meal to make and it's so healthy too!

I had some dry brown bread toast with mine, which may seem a bit odd, but I liked it!

The Story Of My Life Chapter 5 - Starting College

Hello Again!

So sorry for the lack of posts lately, as I explain on The Beauty Corner, I had laptop troubles but it's all sorted now and I'm back with the 5th Chapter of the Story Of My Life!

This one is all about starting College, the place that completely changed my life, in every way! College here in the UK is where you can go after school, you go to high school when you're 11 til when you're 16, then college or sixth form (which is like two more years of school, studying A Levels) until you're 18, then you go off to Uni! College, Sixth form and University are all of course optional!

I remember I wasn't actually nervous at all on my first day of college, I study art and design so with it being a specific course, everyone already had something in common - we all loved art!
College seemed like the best thing ever at first, I got to do art all day, everyone was lovely and the tutors were so laid back, it was (and still is!) so much better and more grown up than school. Don't get me wrong, I still really like college, but the thrill does wear off a bit and it's not as exciting as it used to be!

The main thing that I loved about college of course though, was the people. I made friends really quickly, it was hard not too! I had friends in other subjects as well, so I met people from different courses too, I met Darren at college, he does Music, which is in the same building as me! We were friends for almost a year before we actually got together though, I was in an (honestly, failing) relationship with someone else when I first met him and in all honesty, he was always such a great friend to me, that now, it almost seems as if it was inevitable that we'd end up together! (We've been told we're like a love story - cheesy but I agree!)
I think the people I met at college and just being there generally helped me make some really important decisions, which will be explained in another chapter ;) I think I learnt a lot about people generally, meeting so many different kinds of people can teach you a lot, not only about others, but yourself as well. You learn to trust, to be cautious and to be accepting.
You never know who you're going to meet when you start a new school or college, but it definitely taught me to take risks and follow my heart, it always turns out for the best that way :)

But it has just generally changed my life - (and me!) in so many ways, I met some very interesting people, my lovely friends and my gorgeous boyfriend there - I also learnt a thing or two about art too ;)

The Story Of My Life Chapter 4 - My First Job

I got my first job pretty early, I was 15 and in my final year at school

I worked in a Pharmacy just down the road from where I live for £4 an hour! I worked on the tils, serving customers, pricing things, calling out people prescriptions, all the kinda stuff you'd expect in a pharmacy!

Honestly, I really kind of hated this job at the time.. it was only an hour and half after school a couple of days a week, but I found it so boring and dull! However I stuck it out for almost a year before I got my first 'proper' part time job in December 2010, which is the one I still have now!

There were some interesting times there though, of course I could never mention any names (not that I'd ever remember any names anyway!) but some strange stuff did go on in that Pharmacy, there was one particularly elderly customer who once came in and bought a pack of ribbed condoms and winked at me as she left. Possibly one of the most hilarious but awkward moments of my life..
They also seemed to think putting the pregnancy tests right above where the sweets were kept was a good idea. There was no end to the amount of children that picked those up asking their parents what kind of sweets those were!

In retrospect, as a first job, it wasn't really that bad, sure it was a bit boring but it got me a little bit of extra money and introduced me to the working world. It gave me confidence in talking to customers and asking for help when I needed it (even if some of the staff weren't the most pleasant people I've ever met!)

I think what I learnt the most from this job, was that no matter how much you don't like a job, or anything really, there are some things you just have to do and no matter how boring or rubbish it seems at the time, it'll be done before you know it and you'll feel great once it's over!

The Story Of My Life Chapter 3 - Braces

I remember the day the dentist told me I needed braces, it honestly felt like the end of the world, my life was over, I'd look hideous forever and no one would ever want to look at me again. Right?
Wrong.

See? Not so bad!

Getting my braces on was a lot less scary than I expected, it didn't really hurt at all, but honestly, they ached so much afterwards, it wasn't like a pain, but a really annoying ache, it was like this every time I got them tightened too. It made it hard to eat for a while but it wasn't too big a deal!

But honestly, like a lot of people, I was far more worried about what they'd look like and what people would think of me! How on earth was I supposed to kiss a boy with braces on? And would any boy even want to kiss me once I had them on? But they did as it goes, and it doesn't feel weird, so no worries!

At first I was super self conscious, I felt like my lips stuck out like mad, I felt like a weirdo with robot teeth, but really, my lips didn't stick out and robots don't even have teeth. People hardly noticed them to be honest and I definitely had no need to worry, in all honesty, I kind of grew to love them, they were part of me!

Of course, the best part of braces is your teeth afterwards!
This is one of the first photos I took after getting my braces off! (I had them on for nearly 2 years!)

Braces are definitely worth it, I am now so happy with my teeth and my smile, it gave me so much more confidence having 'perfect' teeth!

The Story Of My Life, Chapter 2 - Boys

Hello again!
Another 'chapter' of my life story for you! This is gonna be a little more serious (but not in a weird, sad way, don't worry!)

Let me start by saying I am about as far from a boy expert as you can get.
I have my stories just like anyone else, but I honestly don't think there's such a thing as someone who has the opposite sex completely sussed out.

Back in school, I was never someone who had loads of boyfriends, I had meaningless hardly-even-relationships with guys, but never anything too serious. That's how I liked it and that's honestly how I always thought it would be, I didn't think I was the relationship type and honestly, I've only had two serious relationships, the first was with my last boyfriend when I was fifteen, up until last year.

I'm not going to go too much into that one as it didn't have the greatest ending. I think since I was so so young when it started, I was a bit clueless really, I ended it with this guy once last summer, so obviously something hadn't been right, but I went back, I'm not really sure why now but I did and it was honestly such a mistake.
Anyway, we got back together and I started having doubts again almost straight away. Anyway long story short, that ended again.

In my opinion, being friends with an ex pretty much never works, it can for some people, but it didn't for me and I know it doesn't for pretty much all of my friends.

I'm so, so happy with Darren now and I think you can really tell when you're with the right person.
Although I doubt I'm the best person to be giving advice, I would say not to worry too much about it, especially while you're still in school and things, chances are, the first person you're with, probably won't be the one you're with forever. For some people it might be, but the way I see it, I think you need someone to compare to, you need a relationship or two that didn't work out so you can see what went wrong and you'll be able to tell the difference in the way you feel when you are with someone who's right for you.

I don't have a perfect record, I'm not perfect and I've definitely made mistakes, but I think that's kind of okay.
Some guys are great, some are sh*t, but don't ever think they're all the same, because they're not and I definitely believe that you will find someone who's great for you :)

The Story Of My Life Chapter One, Starting Secondary/ High School

I started high school/ secondary school in 2005, in the UK you're there from year 7 to 11, so when you're 11, to when you're 16.

I actually still remember my very first day, I went in with my sister and best friend at the time, it was TERRIFYING, to me, 'big school' was a place a where you were gonna have to sit quietly, with your perfect school uniform, to avoid getting detention - and god forbid if one day you forgot your pencil case and had to ask to borrow a pen!

I soon learnt it wasn't actually like that though, I made friends pretty quickly and year seven was actually a really fun year looking back.
Year Seven was a time of;
- massively oversized cross-body school bags with pictures of kittens on (just me? oh.)
- taking stupid amounts of pictures on your super cool camera phone
- getting a bebo account, misschloebabie I think it was..
- wrapping my head around learning german, Hallo, Ich heisse Chloe und Ich wohne aus England!
- having a crush on a guy, only for me to change my mind and turn him down 'asked me out' soz.
- getting overly excited when your friend hugged her 'boyfriend'
- being convinced you'd never get into college because you were late sometimes and got a detention once
- having 'shopping parties' and pizza hut for all your friends birthdays
- LIPGLOSS

As you can tell, I was a strange, but oddly, rather normal 11/12 year old girl.

Starting school, like anything new, was scary and exciting and full of surprises!

So I thought to myself, maybe I could start a series, The Story Of My Life, to really help you get to know 'the girl behind the blog' so that's what I'm going to do!
I'm not literally going to do every single day and year of my life as I'm sure no one's really that interested in my first visit from the tooth fairy or my tenth birthday!

Pillow Talk- January Round Up

So it's 11pm and it means January 2012 is almost over!

This month has been an incredible one for me, I saw in the New Year with a kiss at midnight from my lovely boyfriend! (It's also our three month anniversary today! cheesy I know, but hey!)

I started The Ramble Corner, which I've really been enjoying doing, it's great to have a blog that I can almost treat as a diary, I can just post whatever, whenever!
I started my Final Major Project in College as I'm leaving in a few months, which is scary!

Pillow Talk - Shampoo, Shops and Songs

So I'm just about to go to bed and once again, I fancy just having a little ramble and updating you on my (oh so interesting) life.

I used a toner on my hair today because my blonde was getting a little brassy, I used the touch of silver twice weekly brightening shampoo, I'll probably review it soon, rather funny consequences, which you'll know about if you follow me in twitter, let's just say, I can't wait to see my hair in natural lighting ;)

I really want to set up some sort of online store, like crafty things like jewellery or something, It's something I've wanted to do for such a long time, what are your thoughts on that? I'd love to know :)

I'm listening to Florrie - Sunday Girl at the moment, I absolutely adore this song, it's so so so cute! Desperately looking for new music at the moment, I pretty much like everything, so if you have any suggestions that'd be lovely!

I really like doing random posts like this, they kind of relax me on nights where I'm not feeling ready for bed (it's 11:30 pm here in the UK while i'm writing this and I have to wake up at 6am!) It's never been diagnosed, but I'm pretty sure I suffer with mild insomnia, I've never had much luck with sleeping, the only time I can easily is when I'm staying round my boyfriends (@Daz_Sayss on twitter, you all probably know him from the bf tag!) I think I like having someone there, it's not that I'm scared of anything, it just seems to help strangely! :)

Anyway I'm rambling right on about nothing now!

Slooooow Saturdays

Hola bellezas!

I thought I'd help this blog live up to it's name by just having a little ramble today, I have nothing much to actually say but I just fancied blogging and that is what The Ramble Corner is all about!

Saturday's always seem to go rather slowly for me these days, I never make plans because I don't (generally, I did today, but that was a one off) work on Saturdays, but I work Sundays and Wednesdays and go to college every other day, so my clever little brain always says, ahh let's have a nice day in on Saturday.
This is good, until about 1 o clock in the afternoon when I'm wide awake with absolutely nothing to do.

I tend to go to Darren's after work on a Sunday and I'll be staying there tomorrow so I won't be posting tomorrow and possibly not Monday either, but if you guys get some quick comments/ tweets in today with post suggestions, I might pre-write for you all, because I love you all so much!

I'm currently sitting with hair dye on my roots, unless you've been following The Beauty Corner for a rather long time, you may not know that I'm not a natural blonde (shock horror, right? My natural hair is some shade of light/ medium brown, the roots look quite dark but that's just because they contrast with the blonde) I've had it on about 20 minutes and they're currently looking a very fetching shade of canary yellow, still 20 minutes to go though!
I've always done my hair at home though, it's not too bad but I feel like it does need some tlc at the moment so I think I'm going to use my new intensive conditioner today, it's the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration one, I'll probably review it on TBC soon.

Sorry for the lack of structure to this post, that's what rambling's about though surely?

Where HAVE you been?

Just as I was getting right into blogging everyday on The Beauty Corner and starting this new blog, College stepped up! I have been SO busy this week, as I've said before, we're doing our final major projects and I tell you, major is definitely the prominent word in that sentence!
I feel like it's taking over my life a bit, but it's okay because this is actually a really nice project.

I'll warn anyone who plans to do anything arty/ fashion based at college or uni or whatever, it can be bloody expensive!

I will definitely be posting more regularly on here soon, I have a few ideas but as always, I'm open to yours, if there's anything at all you'd like to see, do let me know! :)

Covent Garden - Photography

On Tuesday, my college class went on a trip to Covent Garden as our Final Major Projects for our course is titled 'Covent Garden'
So basically, the theme is Covent Garden and as it's the final project, we write our own assignment and can do any discipline we like, eg textiles, illustration etc etc
But more on that later as I just wanted to talk about Covent Garden in this post.

If you don't live in the UK or have never been to Covent Garden, I'll explain a little, Covent Garden is an area of London that is basically just filled with various shops, restaurants and markets, it's also home to the Royal Opera House and various theatres, museums and galleries.
I took lots of photos while I was there because I needed some for my project and I thought I'd share them with you all :)

The Shops at Covent Garden are just gorgeous, they are all so unique, there's literally something for everyone, of course, I particularly loved any with a lot of pink! ;)

Though it's probably very odd to take pictures of random strangers, it was hard to resist! You see some really interesting people around. You'll have already seen these fellas if you follow me on twitter (@chloeecakess) but here they are again!

It's hard not to want to buy everything you see at Covent Garden, so that's a warning for if you ever want to go!
